Reviews for "AD&D Engine - Fighter"

Alright! It's D&D..., But...

I am happy you have made a D&D game, but it was not very long at all. I mean I have never actually played a real game of D&D with the pen and paper and actual dice, only the games like on PS2 or Never Winter Nights for the PC. But this game was way too quick, did not really have any items or a story. I mean if this is the first chapter it should have lasted a lot longer.

Also, although I know dice rolls are random, it gets annoying when the enemy keeps getting high rolls and killing you and you keep rolling way low. Again I understand it is luck of the dice, but watching it gets pretty annoying. Not your fault I suppose if you are truly using a random dice generator, but still a pain some times.

I played this game many times and many different ways and it was so short that if you put stuff in Wis or Int or Cha you get a chance to use each once and that is it. Having a high Cha did nothing that I am aware of for the story it self... it said I was disgusting, yet my girl friend still said I was handsome in my armor... and the Orc female did not change how she felt about me that I could tell. Only the priest did.

Now for the major problems.

My ice wand I just bought while still on the buy screen was used because I had my mouse pointer too close to it when I was trying to press finish. What did it get used on? I mean WTF!?! Seriously... you mean I just wasted money!?! And the same with the potions... you can buy 10 potions in the beginning when in shop and keep them, but you can buy past that, but they do not appear. And you can use them while in the shop screen like you do the wands and then you have less than 10 even though you had bought 12... WTF!?! Why were they used? I was already at full health!

And after I answered the Hobbit Ghost question you can not return to him or go that direction even though the compass clearly states it is still a viable option.

My second time through I used all three wands I had on the last boss and he was -2 or some thing, but I still had to roll to hit him to kill him. I did, but what if I had not gotten a high enough roll? Could he have still killed me?

The amour I found along the way is worse then the one I already had equipped and there is no way to switch it again... WTF!?! Even if you had bought the scale armor which is the cheapest you still lose 2 armor points. Even if I bought no armor it still went down 2 points!?! How is that possible? Is armor really your Dex!?!

Now the armor complaint could be because I am not really versed in D&D... but the last time I saw numbers going backwards and into the negatives it usually means some thing bad...

In the very beginning if you do not automatically go NE you miss your chance to speak to priest and can not go back... but after you go north and kill your 1st enemy from then on you can back track, just not back to the priest. Why is that?

There is no inventory screen... but then again there was no need for it except for the armor... a D&D game needs tons of items and a good story, but this was lacking on all accounts.

The wall riddle after I had already answered it the first time and I replayed, the word is still there and all I have to do is click the enter button. But the Hobbit answer does not reappear and I have to reanswer it. Now I already know the answer for both so it does not matter now, but why does one keep the answer on the screen and the other does not? Why not add different riddles?

Why only "THE" Fighter class? As in you can not be a true warrior or a true mercenary etc. let alone a mage type or a thief etc.

Regardless, I was originally going to give this game a 6, but after trying and retrying different combos I found that unfortunately it really is not that good of a game. There are many problems with it and I'm sure I could find more if I really felt like it, but there is only so much space allowed...

I can appreciate the D&D feel, but it just felt broken and way too unpolished. Better luck next time, but please try again... you need a writer? Hahaha.

An attempt

Good for an AD&D engine game. Try to use at least 3.0e if you plan on making another, plus add room for the other classes.

I have

no idea what the guy below me is talking about.

I had a -4ac by the time it was all said and done - just takes a bit of munchkin. Since there are well over 1500 reviews I haven't read them all, so this has probably been posted before.

re-roll until you get around 29 points to work with. Max out dex, con and strength. Lower a few stats, raise Cha up a few for extra starter cash ( atleast I think it works that way :/ ) Make sure to get the ring before you fight the black knight. After you get the ring everything has to roll an 18-20 to hit you. You should be rockin with a 15 or less to hit them. Makes the cow pirate at the end a breeze.
Can't take him down in combat?Save the fire wand till you get to him.
And for fucks sakes, buy potions.

It killed a little time...

Well it really wasn't to shabby it was something to click on for a minute. For me the AD&D appeal was there. Right down to the Monty Python reference, as the group that I play AD&D with is always making jokes about either the holy grail or Yellowbeard... I got fragged by the black knight, but I'll prolly be back soon lol...These folks are being rough on this one...and to katz-genis its not a glitch that your AC is in the negative it can go into the negative in AD&D and your not invincible it would just take a higher roll on the chart that the DM would look at to see what he needs to roll on a 20 sided die to hit an AC whatever on a scale from -10 all the way to postive 10...ya dig? lol...Get the old Gary Gygax Dungeon Masters Guide to view the charts lmao I'm such a nerd...

It wasn't bad for its time, but...

I found a glitch. If you put max constitution when you create your character, and then buy the best armor, it gives you a negative armor value and thus makes you invincible. Other than that, it wasn't bad for its time.
