Reviews for "Galagian"

almost perfect

-add keyboard controls (space for fire)
-at least extend the invisible barrier to the halfway point
-add a few more varied upgrades like side shooting cannons and missles
-have your shield recharge slowly on it's own
-add a special attack for those extra sticky situations? something that deals a lot of damage and clears all the bullets on the screen
-make the diamonds one unique color so it's easier to pick them out. Maybe like make them all silver, and then make sure enemies only fire colored bullets?
-you should also be allowed to shoot down missiles. They're very irritating. Yes, I know you can use your shield against them, but i'd rather save the shield for more serious situations.

And finally a tip: In this game i have found the best strategy is to watch the area around your ship so you can focus on dodging and then just roughly aim with your perhipheral vision until there are only a few guys left.

I only made it to the level where you have to fight four of those boss dudes. I found it extremely irritating because the screen went all white and you hear an explosion every time HE is damaged. I thought that it was me dying when I wasn't even near any bullets.

Skellus responds:

-Nope. People would complain that game is too difficult on keyboard - the maneuverability is almost none on keyboards.
-Changed.
-Would require rebalancing, so no. It is a simple arcade shooter after all :)
-Nope again. Shield recharges for crystals and killing enemies already.
-Nope once more. You have a shield to quickly jump to other, less cluttered section of the screen.
-Changed.
-Nope. In Deluxe Galaga it was impossible to shoot down missiles (and keep in mind that there was no vertical movement!). Missiles are irritating not without a reason - a variety is a good thing in my humble opinion.

Yea, that's one of the best tactics. Though there are some things to be kept in mind:
-First destroy Rocketers and Flamers
-Don't let the barriers fall too fast - it isn't healthy
-Don't get too close to Boarders and Parafighters
-Take down Mowers quickly

Heh, you should be actually glad that there is a big flash. It clears up the screen of bullets and rockets which is a really good thing in my humble opinion :).

Good.

These games are my favorite. Yours is among the top i've seen- ingenuitive, shiny, and new. But there are a few issues:
1. Only half the screen is useable. Believe it or not, most of your audience is mature enough to know when its safe to go up farther, into the enemy. Please let us.
2. The sprites for the bullets and the crystals are too similar. I suggest either using a consistant color for bullets/crystals, in order for the recognition of each to be faster, or to make them more blatantly different. Keep in mind that people never watch their ship while playing these games; they look ahead. Hence, when either a bullet or diamond gets close to the ship, its out of the corner of one's eye that he sees it. The identities of each must be very different to maintain easy recognition.

Other than those major issues, I didn't see much I didn't like. The sprites are wonderfully made, the music is very fitting, and even drives the game some. The enemies have creative patterns of movement and attacking. Overall, you did a good job with this.

Skellus responds:

1. It was made not to restrain the wild arm of player, rather to make the life more difficult to him/her. But I've changed it.
2. Fixed too :).

Thanks very much for feedback!

Liked the game but...

Ok, I really like the mouse controls. Only problem with it as you're clicking away (autofire is WAY too slow) your ship bounces around and in the later levels it's really easy to bounce into a bullet or mine or something. A key on the keyboard to fire would be a real easy solution to that. And you don't have to hear the mouse clicking 200 times a second.
It was really nice being able to clear the crystals into a single line so you could clear the screen out but after level 15 or so you need to start saving your shield so you can't clear the screen anymore. That's the biggest reason I died was the screen was so cluttered with crystals I couldn't see the shots being fired at me. Another key being used to line up the crystals would be nice. All in all good game.

Skellus responds:

Or just make the auto-fire super fast. Nope for either. I am not here to make the life of players easier, only more interesting. If you can't keep the mouse in one place while shooting rapidly, then I am afraid I won't do anything about it. Besides. what is the difference between hearing the mouse click 200 times and hearing the key press 200 times? :P
Again no. You can't have too easy life now, can you? ;)
But I've changed the colors, so now it shouldn't be a big problem anymore.

Pretty good, one major annoyance

I would've given this a 10 but two things stopped me. First the seemingly random crystal and weapon colors are tricky. Some of the enemy fire looks like crystals as a result. That's 1 point.

The bigger issue is the invisible barrier that you can't cross. You're trying to dodge the mowers and all of a sudden you can't go any higher on the screen and you don't know where that line of stoppage is. It's infuriating.

Other than that, good game. The throbbing music keeps up the intensity for a while.

Skellus responds:

Both changed :)

Thanks for feedback!

Great

But Keyboard controls would have made it alot better.

Skellus responds:

Well, In my humble opinion it is difficult enough to maneuver between the bullets with the mouse. If the keyboard control was implemented, people wouldn't like the much higher difficulty which is the effect of it. So there is a big No for keyboard control for this game :).
