Reviews for "Galagian"

Wow!

Absolutely amazing, with a few choice things.1. Even with the shield, it's kind of easy to die, how about a small health bar?2.Using the shield to gather things that let you sue the shield more, why not use a different button to gather the crystals and get a crystal bar, which refills at the end of every level.3.Different music? If not for everywhere, why not just different music in challenges? So, other than those 3 things, this game was perfect.Great graphics and gameplay.Favouriting and rating 5.

Skellus responds:

1. Nope, I am highly influented by Japanese-Shooters, Galaga and R-Type :).
2. Nope again, that would make things easier.
3. Because of the lack of support for anything of music kind in flash, I find limiting to one or two tunes very good. If only there was FMOD support, or at least OGGs, then there would be more musics.

Thanks very much :)

Liked the game but...

Ok, I really like the mouse controls. Only problem with it as you're clicking away (autofire is WAY too slow) your ship bounces around and in the later levels it's really easy to bounce into a bullet or mine or something. A key on the keyboard to fire would be a real easy solution to that. And you don't have to hear the mouse clicking 200 times a second.
It was really nice being able to clear the crystals into a single line so you could clear the screen out but after level 15 or so you need to start saving your shield so you can't clear the screen anymore. That's the biggest reason I died was the screen was so cluttered with crystals I couldn't see the shots being fired at me. Another key being used to line up the crystals would be nice. All in all good game.

Skellus responds:

Or just make the auto-fire super fast. Nope for either. I am not here to make the life of players easier, only more interesting. If you can't keep the mouse in one place while shooting rapidly, then I am afraid I won't do anything about it. Besides. what is the difference between hearing the mouse click 200 times and hearing the key press 200 times? :P
Again no. You can't have too easy life now, can you? ;)
But I've changed the colors, so now it shouldn't be a big problem anymore.

mouse only play hampers game

solid design and upgrades if you ar e just going for simplicity and straight forward gaming,

but you should have keyboard (arrows) play as optional, since mouse play for shooters is not preferred by everyone,

Skellus responds:

But most of the shooters aren't of the "Japanese-styled amount of bullets" kind, where maneuverability and speed are of the utmost importance.

Pretty good, one major annoyance

I would've given this a 10 but two things stopped me. First the seemingly random crystal and weapon colors are tricky. Some of the enemy fire looks like crystals as a result. That's 1 point.

The bigger issue is the invisible barrier that you can't cross. You're trying to dodge the mowers and all of a sudden you can't go any higher on the screen and you don't know where that line of stoppage is. It's infuriating.

Other than that, good game. The throbbing music keeps up the intensity for a while.

Skellus responds:

Both changed :)

Thanks for feedback!

Good.

These games are my favorite. Yours is among the top i've seen- ingenuitive, shiny, and new. But there are a few issues:
1. Only half the screen is useable. Believe it or not, most of your audience is mature enough to know when its safe to go up farther, into the enemy. Please let us.
2. The sprites for the bullets and the crystals are too similar. I suggest either using a consistant color for bullets/crystals, in order for the recognition of each to be faster, or to make them more blatantly different. Keep in mind that people never watch their ship while playing these games; they look ahead. Hence, when either a bullet or diamond gets close to the ship, its out of the corner of one's eye that he sees it. The identities of each must be very different to maintain easy recognition.

Other than those major issues, I didn't see much I didn't like. The sprites are wonderfully made, the music is very fitting, and even drives the game some. The enemies have creative patterns of movement and attacking. Overall, you did a good job with this.

Skellus responds:

1. It was made not to restrain the wild arm of player, rather to make the life more difficult to him/her. But I've changed it.
2. Fixed too :).
