Reviews for "Mars Colonies Demo"

Just excellent !!

Excellent game all around. More levels would have been nice, as the ones presented weren't that difficult. Specifically a sandbox mode that lets you keep building without ending the level (or even just continuing after victory) would be cool, as might be one in which enemies keep coming directly at your base rather than just wandering randomly (also, to contrast with them landing inside your base, which is more annoying since you can't really set up a perimeter).

The biggest issues were with controls. Although I understand the design choice to not have you be able to control individual colonists, it would be nice to be able to at least target your own buildings for action by those with the relevant jobs allowed... for example, sitting for ten minutes while your colonists keep not bringing metal to your component factory is frustrating, as is wanting to destroy a used-up metal extractor but having to leave it there for an extremely long period while you wait for colonists to finally carry all of the metal out of it. The other control issue was that it was easy to accidentally click on the wrong square accidentally when placing wires, pipes, and buildings... it would be much better if cancelling these items before any resources are brought to them refunded your science.

Also, because of how enemies spawn, in many levels the best course of action happened to be immediately hiring an expensive person and then setting all of your colonists to attack the enemy bases. Except for the last couple levels, you can quickly take out the opposition before it spawns in this way, so it would probably make better sense to have levels start with the enemies already spawned.

This is extremely minor, but I got through the whole game without ever even noticing that two of the buildings could be upgraded... and only the two you never have a reason to look at otherwise. You should make one of the first two levels include upgrading both as part of the mission, as otherwise there's no reason to suspect those things are even in the game.

One final suggestion: Almost all of the resources get used up just laying wire... which makes little sense if you think about it. You should make it so that the buildings can be placed a little closer together and also so that adjacent buildings conduct electricity to each other without wires.

Love the game.

I really like this game. I think my only complaints, aren't even really complaints as much as they are suggestions. You should be able to toggle the speed, not have to sit and hold "s" for days. I would like to be able to train units to fight instead of having to job it out to my colonists. Great game though.

My only complaint is that it's too short. If you could make more levels, or a sequel with some new modules and missions, that would be excellent. This is a fantastic RTS, very well made. Took a little thought to figure out how to get stuff hooked up at first. I played an earlier version and I really like the updates you've made already.
