Because why not? Took me long enough and I'll finally get to post WIPs for you to tear apart.

...soo let's start with a finished piece!
I'm currently drawing quick chapter cards for the design document of Out of Order (a story I'm working on) because it looks really bland without any fancy pictures and it's also fun to try and capture the content / important points of a chapter in a single illustration.

I like this one, but one question. Why doesn't the front character have eyes?
Love the color. Keep them comming.

Glad you do! Her hair was supposed to cover her eyes but I should probably adjust it so that it actually makes sense.

I really like it like that, it gives more uniqueness to the character, that's my opinion at least.

I thought that way too so I just made one of her strands bigger. Don't want people to assume her eyes are on the top of her head or something.

WIP. Not sure about the character placement. Can't decide wether I should cut off her shoes or not. Also flying mafia cars.

Problem solved, moving on to colors. I'll probably end up making it alot more bright with a friendlier sky.

Hm. I don't really like this everyone seems to do nowadays, reducing the size of limbs to give it that cartoon-like look. But I have to admit that you've done it in a very interesting way. The drawing is dynamic and not boring to look at. Good job.

Thanks! I figured over time that shrinking feet and legs usually results in more balanced cartoony body shapes for me. Normal feet are odd if the rest of the character is deformed and large feet usually result in Mickey Mouse, which isn't what I aim for. I agree though that small legs are very common nowadays.

This character concept is a few weeks old. Her backstory and personality are all set in stone but she still has no name yet. I either come up with names immediately or take months..

I didn't really get to do much this month besides almost finalizing a character design. I'm still playing around with the exact style of her eyes, her color palette and some other minor things which can be seen here:

Last finalization steps
Turnaround

Feel free to give me your opinion on these things! I really can't tell which eyes / colors are the most bearable to look at.

You have a great style. I really like it! I especially like how you use perspective in your art. Bending and curving characters and backgrounds - it really adds depth of field. Thats one thing I need to work on myself! The only thing I'd critique on your first picture in this thread, is the green hair. It seems way too bright against everything else in the picture which is quite gloomy and shady. Maybe you was going for that effect, but i dunno, it looks like it's almost glowing.

As for the colours and eyes on this last pic, I personally think the far right looks the nicest. Keep it up!

Thanks man! The reason for the glowy hair is my hopelessly undersaturated laptop. I'm currently tweaking the color palettes on another computer.

The far right looks best to me too, although I'll probably make the shading less extreme. No white light reflection for the eyes though, that doesn't feel right for me somehow.

I did one of these things:

Senry design development thing

Her development somewhat reflects my progression as an artist in the last few years.. goes from shitty mouse drawing through first tablet baby steps up to the point where for the first time I'm happy with her appearance.

Great work! Your silhouettes are a lot of fun. I also appreciate the harmony you've found between crisp bodies of color and line work to apply definition and relief where each is needed.

Thank you! I think I can grasp what you're talking about but it must be something I don't do on purpose since I can't point it out in my own work..

Still finalizing characters.. I'd love to show more lifesigns but I can't really upload most of what I'm working on currently. The black box on the right should give you an idea why.

Hey Kmau, long time no see
I like your use of colours!
The second character with the bangs in her eyes would have to be my favourite if i had to choose, has a kind of metal slug vibe about her, probably partly due to the colour scheme, nice work :)

I feel slightly hollow inside.

Hi and thanks VV! I see what you mean, her palette is somewhat metal sluggish safe for some beige. Maybe she'll pick up a heavy machine gun somewhere?

Work has been intense so I didn't get to do much safe for random char designs from my sketchbook. I'm pretty indecisive about the colors of this person.

Hello, I'm back!

Are personal art threads still a thing? I want to do something on Newgrounds that isn't just a bi-monthly upload of a finished artpiece, so please excuse this act of necromancy. I'll probably dump some older pieces in here over the next weeks for good measure and see what happens.

Welcome back! Personal art threads are still a thing, and it's extra fun to see some with several year gaps in them to see the progress you've made. Your shape language in particular got freakin' sweet over your hiatus. Hope to see more stuff, ah?
