Welcome to the 14th annual Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch! The NGADM is a rough-and-tumble, (mostly) single-elimination music competition hosted through the site that stretches for 5 full months. If you’re ready to go toe-to-toe with the best musicians Newgrounds has to offer, read on.
“A Deathmatch? How delightful! How do I join?”
To submit your audition track, just click “respond to this topic” in the top-right corner of this webpage, and post a link to a song of yours from Newgrounds. For this round, it can be something you wrote years ago, or you can make it from scratch specifically for the competition. You can also change the piece you’d like us to judge by posting a new one before the deadline. Before posting, just make sure you read all of the rules that couldn't fit in this concise forum post.
“Deadline? That sounds a little more structured than most deathmatches I know of…”
Yeah, sorry. You only have until 23:59 (11:59 p.m.) Eastern Daylight Time (GMT -4) on July 13, 2023 to enter the competition. This deathmatch also has some other scheduling details that go with it that you might want to check out.
“So how do my competitors in the deathmatch get…um…dead?”
Immediately after the auditions submission phase, the judges will narrow down the contestants to the top 64. Participants are then seeded, and compete in a “group stage” where only one out of every 4 will be accepted into a single-elimination-style tournament.
“What happens if I win the deathmatch?”
Prizes will include custom-made forum signatures for the top 3 finishers boasting of their success in the competition, as well as spots on the front page of the Audio Portal the week after the competition and an all-expenses-paid Newgrounds supporter upgrade for 2024. You can also expect to improve your music, meet a ton of awesome people, and gain some more exposure on the site.
“And who are these judges you speak of?”
@ADR3-N, @Bosa, @ConnorGrail, @SplatterDash, @TeraVex, @WobWobRob, @X3LL3N, and myself have joined the judging team so far. @Everratic is my co-administrator for the contest. Special shout-out to @Step and @Echo for founding this competition back in 2009 when they were both 14 years old, and also to @TomFulp for running the entire website and stuff.
“What kind of ‘audio’ should I submit? (And how/when/where???)”
In a word, music. But in 1,314 words, here are THE COMPLETE LIST OF RULES FOR THE COMPETITION. Please read them. And when in doubt, ask for clarification in this thread or via PM.
But above all, remember to have a ton of fun! The Deathmatch begins now, so WATCH YOUR BACK! >:D
