True, foneys are on the move.A couple of months back I received an e-mail stating: " I'm from Newgrounds..." All he said was how amazing he had found this company giving away free plasma-TV's, CD- and DVD-players! He told me to participate. So what did I do? Nothing! It's weird, how people just keep falling into those traps! รด.0*

At 3/17/05 10:50 AM, Zendra wrote: Hmm, if it is a virus, it is a virus made for Newgrounds. Since it can access Tom's e-mail address and also "know's" some things. And someone is just using his e-mail, wich isn't allowed.

you have some mistakes here. the virus (if it is one) was not meant for ng, but to users who recieve it. it's that simple.
second, it can't access tom's mail. the sender probably changed the sender's main, as people said before already.

It's easy as hell to spoof an email address, here is an example:
http://www.tinsanity.net/spoofer.php
See? But luckily there are just as easy ways to determine the real sender
To see the real message author in Microsoft Outlook
Rightclick the email on your email list and click options. Under the Internet Headers box, if it says anything other than newgrounds (or something to that effect) after "Recieved: from", it's a fake.

I can e-mail people from my phone and specify what the 'from' address is. I might send one to somebody here, except I'll tell you what i'm doing... if anyone gets an e-mail from 'tom' soon and the subject is 'test' then its me!

There's a simple solution, NG. Be on the lookout for this fake. Once found, it shouldn't be a problem to get rid of him/her. Nonetheless, it's a matter that we all shouldn't be like "OMG OMG OMG!" and just not care.

But I can't do much since I'm at home for Spring Break, and my NG account is back at the college. Curse my lacking e-mail skills. ~_~

Response to Warning: Fake Tom Email 2005-03-17 12:05:04

I can't help to wonder if the guy is using that e-mail account to randomly e-mail people, and trying to spread bad things about the site.

TheHappyBoy, author of Armed Forces, the movie I blew my whistle on, was the user impersonating Tom before. He changed his profile though. I'm not saying he's responsible for the e-mail thing, but still, dude, that was a dumb thing to do.

If this guy has an account delete it immediately! I can't stand people who dare impersonate you for malicious reasons.

I've seen stuff like this before. Script kiddies think they're funny by using html address spoofers.

I was never really here.

There was a 46k file attached called "flash". It is most likely something malicious. Please note that I will NEVER send anyone random files such as this. If you receive an email from me with a file attachment, don't open it until you specifically know the context of our communication!

Who would do such a thing!? :(
