Reviews for "Halloween Reprisal"

Wow I'm impressed

I really enjoyed this game.

At first; When you introduced me to the game; I was like...ahh what could this be? Is it good...is it bad? So I was a bit off the edge since you viewed the submission to me. I had my doubts a bit but you know what.. you really shocked me.

This game is really really really good.
Let's break it down a bit.

Graphics:
The graphics and artwork for the game was VERY impressing. I loved how the movie flowed with the cutscenes and explaining how the game worked in the HOW TO PLAY. It was very shined up and I could tell you guys took alot of time on this.

Style:
The style of the game was another impressing viewpoint of this finished product due to your character style. It was pretty basic but VERY artsy. I really enjoy that too.

Sound:
The sounds for this movie was very good as well. They were pretty basic and fitted the enviroment of the game. So thumbs up on that one.

Violence:
The violence wasn't too much; but it was sorta grusome like in the How to Play where the guy gets ripped in half. I enjoyed this.

Interactivity:
The interactivity between the whole game was pretty good. I really enjoyed the chemistry between the characters and the gameplay in which this game released.

It was quite enjoyable.

Humor:
There wasn't TOO much humor in this. I just really liked the swinging guy in the back like dead =P hah He looked cool though. That guy was just chilling there.
This was really good though.

Overall:
The finished product of the game was really good. I enjoyed it all and the gameplay was astonishing. =] The artwork was pretty good too. The game came together quite nice. I wasn't disappointed at all. And the How to Play menu was very nice. Same with the menu screen.

Here's your overall game grade.. a 10! =]
I was very impressed.

Thank you for showing me this game.
It's adding to the favorites.
Maybe... Armor Games reward; and maybe...front page award? Sounds good to me.

I wish you best of luck. =]
I'll be looking forward to more of your work.
Thank you for everything and the awesome game.

I'm out.
-Rudy

Rammer responds:

Rammer: wow, that's quite a review! i wish i got more of these.

graphics: yeah, Blaze is an excellent artist. i feel like my little details helped to tie it up in a fancy ribbon, though, so to speak :P we both spent a lot of time on this...i actually put school on hold for a bit while we worked on this :P

style: no real comment..

sound: what's funny is that i made one of the squishing sounds with my mouth :P like when you gouge their eyes out; that's me. but Blaze found all the other sounds, that little rascal.

violence: heh, i think this is the strong point of the game. i THINK. my blood effects would be nothing if it weren't for Blaze's amazing animation skills.

interactivity: i am glad you liked it, because the one thing that made this game have any challenge was taken out at the last minute \: we were both worried that people wouldn't like it due to its lack of challenge, but i suppose it worked out fine because it's satisfying to rip the kids apart.

humor: heh, we tried to put in little bits of humor in random places, most noticeably, as you said, was the hanging guy. another little bit was on the tombstone in the first cinematic, a little nod toward my favorite comedian, Demetri Martin. take a close look :P

overall: thanks! we worked insanely hard to get this all done in the short amount of time that we had, so i think i can say on both of our behalf that we're glad it all came out all right.

any kind of award would kick ass. we're just hopinh for one, but with the current score (3.55), i don't think we're getting one ):

--

I'm glad that the How To Play part was understandable, i was a bit scared that people wouldn't understand it and therefore wouldn't be able to play it. We both took a lot of time into this, and the animations took a long time to perfect (or to get close to such thing). I'm glad you also enjoyed the art style, I try my best.

Violence. There wasn't much violence on my own part, i only ripped the kids in half for Rammer to add the brutal gore. Which I believe we both agree that it is indeed pretty awesome. Some of the sounds were made by Rammer! Hahaha. Thank you for your review, sir it means a lot to us.

Won't let me play

I'd like to play this submission, but for some reason, it doesn't let me get past the tree with the red and blue swirling colours... Any reason as to why that might be?

Also, don' t pay much mind to those ratings.. I just put those so I could get this up for you to read.

Rammer responds:

you mean the main menu? :S

you might not have flash player 8, hence why certain things might not be appearing.

go to adobe.com and get it, then try again. pm me if it works.

A beautiful game that is slightly repetitive.

I've been looking foward to your guys' game for quite a bit and I'm pleased with the final product (although it was dissapointing to see the candy mechanic removed).

The graphics all looked amazing, with smoothly flowing cutscenes and animation as well as superb effects (yay blood). I already read about the backwards sprite but it was still missed when I played the game.

The style is nice, I had my fun tearing up little children, watching their eyes explode and torsos halve. But the gameplay itself got boring half way through. It's fun to tear the kids up but they realyl should've had the ability to fight back (or at least have them scream :P) I understand about the time constraint but maybe you'll touchit up after all the awards are handed out? The only thing I have to say negative about the gameplay was how weird the hit detection was, it felt like the area for attacks was waaay too narrow. The kids felt a little to difficult to hit which might sound challenging but it was the frustrating kind - you know? Also, the game felt a bit slow paced, the skeleton walks at such a sluggish clip that I felt like I was strainin to move the character (and the kids just hoping around instead of running away from an undead monster seemed kindof silly :P).

Overall though, feature exclusion and pacing problems included, the game was a very enjoyable work and I can see the large amount of effort you both put into this piece. I hope you win something!

Rammer responds:

yeah, sorry about the candy. but you already know why we took it out, so i won't bother to repeat what i said :P

Blaze and i both worked on the cutscenes, which was kind of cool. i storyboarded them and Blaze made them. it was pretty cool to see how close he made it to my storyboards, even though the first cinematic's storyboards weren't finished and the ending one was only described to him.

like i told you, the AI just got frusteratingly complex and the code was confusing to look at. i really had no choice but to take the candy mechanic out \:. as for the hit detection, i know. i probably would have been better off leaving the hitboxes in there, but it felt out of place. i'm not sure if you read it, but all you have to really do is hold down the attack key(s) you want to do and walk up to the kids.
as for the kids just hopping around...it's Halloween, they think he is a fellow trick-or-treater. i WAS gonna implement a gameplay bit that would make them run away from you if they saw you kill someone, but again...i ran out of time.

i hope we win something, too! :D

what?

your not a bad coder at all, that was a great game! (the last guy said you were a bad coder, not me!) anyway great graphics, nice gameplay (smooth!) except you could have made his walking a bit faster, well done man.

Rammer responds:

i know i'm not a bad coder. i'm not gonna let a mod get me down! D:<

thanks (:

Ha!

I like your game..it's like one big fatality...oh your music is slammin too. keep it up

Rammer responds:

thanks (:

also, keep in mind that we didn't make the music. the wonderful people who contribute to the audio portal did. checketh them out, mmkay?
