Reviews for "Infinity Dungeon"

Like this game a lot, even if sometimes "luck" is too much important. Anyone know what is that wood thing usually inside walls? It seems a stair or a chest but i have not found how to use.

Edit: thanks for the reply! Still i can't open that thing, i mean the one made by little brown lines, usually closed by wall on each side. I tried to pass over, bomb, arrow, tried all buttons..

dlodz responds:

Thanks a lot for your feedback @YzfRider.
The item inside the walls is a chest. You can reach it by destroying a destructible walls thanks to a bomb. Depending on your needs, you can preserve your bomb(s) for very rare items that you can find inside the walls later. The bomb also can help you to kill an enemy in tricky situations.

EDIT: Ah yes you are talking about the ladder. At this moment it's just a part of the decor and I admit that is a bit confusing. It would be more than just a decor in the future... I will probably remove it to avoid confusion.

At first I was like "oh, look at that, it's Pixelated Roguelike Dungeon Crawler 439932. Lame." However, for some reason, I saw myself getting hooked and playing again, and again, and again. I'm not sure why this game works so well.

Now, just to clarify, the graphics are not bad, they're quite nice and cute. However, there are billions of roguelikes with very similar pixelated art styles, so it really doesn't stand out in that regard. The music is quite neat, though, I just wish there was more than one song.

Maybe this game works well because it is super straight forward compared to other roguelikes. You just go around, collect treasure, fight monsters, and move on. No need to think about builds, skill trees, or missing a beat in the song.

There are problems, though, like the fact that you're basically the luckiest person alive when you run into a pillow, and some seeds simply do not have them, and the fact that the character moves very weirdly, like, it takes a step when you press the button, but it only gets going if you hold it down after standing still for a bit, kinda like when you're typing.

In the end, this game is a really satisfying, simplistic experience that I find strangely absorbing. The fact that this is a jam entry is kind of impressive, given how replayable it is. If only it kept high scores or a score leaderboard, that'd be the tits.

What a great feedback @Gretgor ! Thank you. I completely agree with most of your points:
- the graphics are based on a free set that saved me time to be focus on the gameplay. That's not a priority but I may change it in the future.
- Even though I love the music, that's important to have several one instead of looping on the same one.
- the pillow is not easy to find (8% of the time). It seems OP but it takes a slot in the inventory and cost 10 of food. I could imagine a way to change its appearance rate, like having more chance to run into it during the first levels.
- I will make a test with the characters movements and see if I can improve them
- I am currently refactoring the HUD that will help me to add new stuff like a leaderboard and achievements.
The next step will be to add special abilities for each hero.

Cheers

Looks like the Crypt of the Necrodancer for a slowpokes 😁

dlodz responds:

Ahaha thank you @PavelMishin for the comparison with such a great title! And yes, you can take a coffee break during the game.

Level 2 had no stairs going down so Im stuck just wandering around.

dlodz responds:

Hello @flamewolf393 thanks for your feedback. I am sorry that you didn't find it. I verified all maps. Each level has a down stair randomly generated in an accessible area. Did you checked behind the top of a pillar ? Stairs are visible but not easy to see in that case. I didn't want to display a stair behind a door, because I consider that the player doesn't have to guess where it is.
Hope you'll find it the next time :)

EDIT: Stairs don't appear behind pillar as well.

this is now one of my most favorite games! I just really wish i could use my arrows more than just once. But overall, i really like the gameplay and the smooth design :)

dlodz responds:

Thanks for your review @WolfChicagosoundclou. Happy that you like the game!
