Reviews for "Infinity Dungeon"

a smooth classic little game. FYC you could add some unlockable sprites if someone completes enough of the dungeon, maybe some better starting gear after getting a high score. still good game

Good Day

Thanks a lot LeeMick for your feedback. That's a great idea. Heroes might have different start (like more food and less arrows) or abilities. I didn't have time for this but I consider it for the next version.

I really liked this! It felt like a solid little rogue-lite to me. It's damn difficult, though, especially the bigger baddies like that green monster thing. The skeletons you mostly win against, but those can really drain your health down. I had no issues with the controls, it was standard rogue and made perfect sense. Showing the keyboard shortcuts when rolling over the buttons helped a lot, too. I would have liked to know -what- the items I found did. For example, I had no idea the potion bottle restored health without clicking on it and using it. Perhaps the shop-keeper guy you meet could have told you what the items did? Very nice, though. Enjoyed playing this lots!

dlodz responds:

Thanks @PhotonStorm I appreciate your review and I am happy that you enjoyed playing it. It makes sense for the shop-keeper to indicate what each item do. Didn't think about it, this is an excellent idea!

Not a bad start. I only say that because I've noticed from some of your comments that you're planning to add more. I like the general idea, but some things were a bit confusing.

Maybe give a little explanation of what an item will do or how much health an enemy has by hovering over them? And the controls were a little clunky when trying to walk. It would be nice to be able to move faster by holding down a key (especially when there are no enemies around). Also, I'm sure the merchants are suppose to be harder to fine/more rare to encounter, but I found them so little, they felt to be a non-factor in my games. Maybe even a list of potential items. I have no idea what all was out there!

Overall, I think you're on to something cool. Good job and keep up the good work!

dlodz responds:

Hey @Hurdlera.
You're right, More explanations should be provided about items and enemies. I plan to add kind of cards that you unlock when you defeat a monster, containing the monster's abilities. What do you think about it ? I'll also try to increase a bit the merchant's appearance. Merchant menu could be a good way to provide explanations about items, even though some of them are not purchasable.
Thanks a lot for your review, it's very encouraging for the next steps.

Looks like the Crypt of the Necrodancer for a slowpokes 😁

dlodz responds:

Ahaha thank you @PavelMishin for the comparison with such a great title! And yes, you can take a coffee break during the game.

At first I was like "oh, look at that, it's Pixelated Roguelike Dungeon Crawler 439932. Lame." However, for some reason, I saw myself getting hooked and playing again, and again, and again. I'm not sure why this game works so well.

Now, just to clarify, the graphics are not bad, they're quite nice and cute. However, there are billions of roguelikes with very similar pixelated art styles, so it really doesn't stand out in that regard. The music is quite neat, though, I just wish there was more than one song.

Maybe this game works well because it is super straight forward compared to other roguelikes. You just go around, collect treasure, fight monsters, and move on. No need to think about builds, skill trees, or missing a beat in the song.

There are problems, though, like the fact that you're basically the luckiest person alive when you run into a pillow, and some seeds simply do not have them, and the fact that the character moves very weirdly, like, it takes a step when you press the button, but it only gets going if you hold it down after standing still for a bit, kinda like when you're typing.

In the end, this game is a really satisfying, simplistic experience that I find strangely absorbing. The fact that this is a jam entry is kind of impressive, given how replayable it is. If only it kept high scores or a score leaderboard, that'd be the tits.

dlodz responds:

What a great feedback @Gretgor ! Thank you. I completely agree with most of your points:
- the graphics are based on a free set that saved me time to be focus on the gameplay. That's not a priority but I may change it in the future.
- Even though I love the music, that's important to have several one instead of looping on the same one.
- the pillow is not easy to find (8% of the time). It seems OP but it takes a slot in the inventory and cost 10 of food. I could imagine a way to change its appearance rate, like having more chance to run into it during the first levels.
- I will make a test with the characters movements and see if I can improve them
- I am currently refactoring the HUD that will help me to add new stuff like a leaderboard and achievements.
The next step will be to add special abilities for each hero.

Cheers
