a khorne follower at an interview:
"... my special skills are hacking, slashing, murdering, my previous employer told me that I'm quite good at dismembering too..."

I'm jimsippo on exterminatus, in fact on anything where a name is required that's what it'd be, because I'm so inventive!

Gummi bears shaped like Imperial Saints, cookies shaped like marine helmets and in the cereal boxes small acquilla shaped candy thingies.

You should have probbly left the words 'SS' and 'nazi' out of that sentence. But it brings back memories of killing these guys. They kept on shouting 'Schutzstaffel!' followed by 'Blargh' or 'Barf'.

Aye, I miss Wolfenstein...

Oh......new rulebook.....NICE NEW MOVEMENT RULES!

I hope that the new vehicle rules will give the Guard a new level of strategy, seeing as more then half of the Guard vehicles have ordnance weapons, meaning remaining stationairy! But firing ordnance on the move could equal a tank rush, which would make Space Marine players shout 'The Guard sucks! They own my army!' as an army of Guard tanks crushes an SM force by the combined strength of ordnance blasts and tank shocks!

Oh, and improved movement and firing rules, score, perhaps another uplifting rule that helps the Guard out, I mean, seeing Guard move is quite rare, so...

Ah well, I just expect it to gives more strategy to my blood angels. Because running with a coupld of dreads or predators behind at each battles, it's getting old. And I hope the assault rules won't be as crappy as the trial ones.

After that I just want a new marine codex that gives me AT LAST tactical squads with close combat weapons. Because my 'close combat specialists' still fight with bolters.

Well 'wait and see' then.

I still can believe that I randomly stumbled into this thread, me that usually don't go to the NG BBS much. Must be divine light of Sanguinius who led me here.

Hey, I know. I think I'll dust off my wacom and reinstall flash. Yea, all I need is... write up something.

Two quick questions.
What are the new assault rules like, can you give me a breif outline?

How much did flash cost you?

Response to Warhammer 40.000 Crew 2004-04-25 18:04:09

Well flash didn't cost me much. Somewhere before 100$ if I remember, special offer. And after I bought a cheap wacom for 60$. It was this or a rather useless update on my computer for christmas.

What I didn't like in trial combat rules is the way you could place your attacks, the crossfire rules gets pretty useless too, and I really don't like to have to fire on the troops I'm charging, the opponent will remove the front troops to keep me out of assault range so finally I end up not firing.

A guy from the Guard forum's I attend to has posted an extensive preview of the upcoming 4th edition rules, changes to the 40k universe, upcoming new Space Marines codex (with chapter traits), a new Eldar codex (perhaps around 200 pages...!), upcoming releases and other tidbits.

Read it here!

Welcome aboard, Death_Zord !

Here's a couple of reaction I have on these useful info Lt. Brookman gave us.

So one of the focus is to fix this CC/LR factor. It's true that charging with a squad of assault marines, 5 marines make 16 attacks I think (counting the sergent) while they get only 5, maybe 10 boltgun shots. A lot of troops who get even attacks, making the game pretty close combat oriented. A matter of stats to me, close combat specialists shouldn't get more than 3 attacks, for the best. (I'm thinking about giving a reroll instead of an attack for 2 close weapons)

I'm not confident about some points however. Nerfing the fearless troops won't help, when my death co is hit by a Dread, I'm on my knees (no grenades). As for the 'blocking effect', it's pretty much the advantage of that.

If the game gets less book costy then yay !

For the shooting rules I'm not sure, but having a ld test each time you want to fire your heavy weaps... ugh, charge !

As for terminator models, they look more dynamic and better sculpted, but if it's using previous termies part I'll continue my ebay hunt for oldies. It's not the lack of dynamism that bother me, it's that the sculpting look more like legos than fearsome warriors.

So I expect the best and fear the worst, I have the feeling that both close and ranged combat will be hard to achieve. And I just hope the fluff won't be damaged more that it is right now.

Response to Warhammer 40.000 Crew 2004-04-28 03:39:29

About the attacks, less attacks would be better yes. I've known Chaos players (I'm not pointing a finger at all you guys) who tooled up their daemon princes to do a whopping 13 attacks in a single assault phase! That would need some real balancing!

They seem to want more close ranged fire fights. With some armies firing their weapons can be seen as an after thought (Chaos, Nids, Blood Angels - Again, don't point that finger at me!) where as other armies benefit almost exclusively from firepower (Foremost are ofcourse the Tau with their weak WS, the Imperial Guard and the Sisters of Battle, whom both have a strong emphasis on ranged combat over close combat.). I'd really like to see more shooting instead of the enemy charging up to me and cutting me to ribbons. Besides, close range fire fights are common read in the BL publications, such as Gaunts Ghosts and the Uriel Ventris series. This should also change the face of Cityfight a bit, seeing as it was there just getting into range for charging!

Aye, I kind of hate the fact of doing an Ld test for firing weapons. IG heavy weapon teams have Ld 7... Quite a sinker unless I put an character in their direct vicinity, a character that should be else where on the board fighting.

The Terminator models look schweet though, not like the midgets that they were, but real bulky monsters, perhaps even taller then the Grey Knight termies!

Thanks for the thoughts, I really wanted to hear some critical stuff on this.

My bet is that you aren't a real gamer of the Games Workshop games, seeing as the Eye of Terror (EOT) is one of those land marks you shouldn't forget on the galactic map.

You might want to go here for the official GW EOT page.

Damn, forgot about the fluff... Fluff is the single most important thing in the 40k universe! I just hope the new Space Marines codex will have some extensive fluff. The current codex is, compared to other army books the weakest excuse for a codex I have ever seen! Same goes for the four sub-books (DA, BA, SW and Armageddon.) Almost no back ground, just rules. Sure, we've got Index Astartes, but that feels more like an after thought! Most people couldn't even name the 9 loyalist chapters! They only know the Ultra Marines, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves and Black Templars! The other first founding chapters aren't that cool it seems...

But they are! If I remember correctly, each chapter had it's own traits.
1. Dark Angels - Deathwing and Ravenwing
2. White Scars - A bike mounted army
3. Space Wolves - Close combat orientated army
4. Imperial Fists - Siege troops
5. Blood Angels - Close combat orientated army
6. Iron Hands - Techmarine and bionics heavy army
7. Ultra Marines - The most basic version of the Space Marines
8. Raven Guard - An entire army of assault marines
9. Salamanders - An army of slow moving, sturdy melta wielding marines.

The only thing I don't get is that the Black Templars are also included with the enxt gen big time chapters. I mean, they are an agressive anti psyker close combat army, but alot like the BA and SW on some terms. (One the BT get to carry bolt pistols plus ccw's in normal squads and scout squads don't excist.)

But what I hope:
1. That the new rule book will have an extensive background section, with the history of the Imperium in more then three paragraphs, with some nice images that actually make sense with the text and less of the mysterious crap!
2. A new and better Space Marines codex, for all I care it would 400 pages! As long as it's better then the current version!
3. Back to the basics! With the EOT campaign we were temporairy allies with the Eldar. I want them to be enemies once more! Same goes for the idiots who think that the Tau, Eldar and Chaos make great allies for the Imperium... Also, bring back the religion to the Imperial armies! They love their Emperor, let them show it!

I've ranted enough for today, but I feel not wiser from comments of others, but also rejuvinated.

I think they're fine, my High Marshall gets lightning claw attacks on the charge and ive put him in a squad of 5 assault marines giving me attacks! Safe to say people want to stay away from me.

I agree that the codexs need more backstory though, i want to know loads more about my marines.

Response to Warhammer 40.000 Crew 2004-04-28 11:17:59

srry, i went to check the no. of attacks but forgot to fill it in. My marshall gets 6 attacks on the charge for 22 in total, enough to kill anything.

Well, you can find all the fluff you need on Internet, I suppose. If you want something, google is your friend. What's matter to me is that GW itself is forgetting it (or simplifying it for children).

In English, I can suggest this site for example, the ideal would be to find some direct scan from rogue trader or other old books.

Yup, GW simplified the fluff and rules to gain a broader audience, the lil' kids... Thats the main reason that Space Marines were the most popular n00b army.

Good thing that Inquisitor is 16+...
