Well, I couldn't really think of a genre to put it under. Technically, it's "Soundtrack," but the spaghetti western sound is actually rooted in experimental Italian pop music of the '60s. Ennio Morricone, in particular, actually spent much of his early musical career as a pop musician.

This is gonna be quite the contest. We should get Tom involved and he can sponsor the winner on the front page or get it featured.

I've tried twice before to get him involved and I never got a reply. If anyone closer to him could get his attention to this it would be very helpful and awesome. I'd also consider adding other countries to the list to accommodate more people due to the exposure. :)

I PM'ed Wade about it and he said that he's passed the info to Tom.

I think Tom gets hundreds of PMs a day or something so he doesn't always have a chance to notice individual PMs sometimes. He's busy with the re-design after all isn't he? ;)

We had to limit because a lot of people kept applying for countries that weren't countries, plus we need to limit the size of applicants, as the marking takes up a lot of time, as well as collecting and adding up all the block votes as well.

Added! Good Luck!

Screencap time!

So yeah, this is the melody I'm starting off with. All notes are played on the black keys, which suits the Japan theme really well, I think. The sound is gonna be a simple bitcrushed square, like the one David Guetta uses in his song Toy Story. The whole thing is gonna be dubstep/complextro-ish.

That's interesting that you would say that and that you chose to have your tonic be Eb. Were you intentionally trying to write in a minor pentatonic scale? Because some japanese instruments like the Shackuhachi actually only have the notes to play that exact scale =)

But if it's just coincidence then thats awesome that you came accross the thought on your own.

For Greece, I'm reading up on Ancient Greek music theory, trying to pick which Mode to use (yes, I'm going to try something mainly modal to start). I really can't wait to try orchestrating a theme, but first I need to come up with a theme and focus that is both accurate and beautiful at the same time... until then, Norton Anthology of Western Music. :/

Hopefully I can post up a melody by the end of the weekend if I don't get too sidetracked.

I didn't know that there are certain instruments that play that scale, but I did want to write in a minor pentatonic scale, because I knew a lot of Japanese music was written in that scale. However, I don't have that much experience with pentatonic scales because I normally use regular major/minor scales, but I knew that all the black keys on a keyboard form a pentatonic scale together so I just went ahead and wrote a melody for those keys only.

Before i continue working on my current project, i need to know. Are we allowed to to arrangements of classical pieces and adapt them within another genre. Because i've started a song that uses an arrangement of "Dance Of The Sugar Plum Faeries"(I arranged it mind you) and i plan on something completely different.

Hey, I'm afraid I can't accept you just yet as you don't have any submissions in the portal and with this being your first and only post, I'm a bit hesitant as I'm not sure if you'd stick around.
