Countries change from year to year, to create some form of diversity and to prevent everyone from doing exactly that, picking their own country and then whining when it's picked by someone else.

I've participated twice and never picked my own country, is it that much of a deal? I'm from Canada, was the fact the country hasn't been available for the last two years some form of discrimination?

BTW, the OP is from the UK too, so, of all the countries, I think that's the last one who'd be discriminated. :\

Also, punctuation much?
Yeah that's ok i guess i just wondered why really and about punctuation this is a forum post not an essay :D

No prob, just clarifying.

As for punctuation, I know I'm just feeding the troll at this point, but really, it's mostly just so that your point gets to whom you're talking to, for clarity and all.

But yeah, do whatever you like, in the end you're the only one affected.

Great, all the countries that I have some idea about are all taken. Not even India is left.

Ahhh, I'm sure an Indian track with slight modification would be a successful Sri Lanka track, and same for Turkish -> Armenian!

Tongue in cheek cultural ignorance FTW!

I havea funny situation going on atm. Theoratically I have the song complete already in FL Studio, but only in the patterns, and whatever I do, I just can't combine the patterns so they actually blend into a song that doesn't sound like it's a combination of 1-minute long clips pasted behind each other. I either gotta scratch some stuff or think of really, really, REALLY good transitions.

Oh lordy, that is precisely the main problem I had. I ended up writing and scrapping two tracks for precisely that reason. Hell, my composition still sounds like it has that kind problem.

Your preview sounds pretty hench, even if you did turn the track into a copypasta feast, I'm sure it'd still sound awesome.

Got a suggestion of a country you'd like to represent which hasn't been taken?

This year pre-selecting countries didn't work, I felt and it seems to have prevented a lot of applications :/
Next year it will go back to people just picking a country. Only one act will be able to represent a country still.

I think the top 5 countries from this years contest will have confirmed artists before the contest opens to the public though, just to ensure consistency in the countries participating.

Also, United Kingdom was available this year and always will be, considering it's my home country. I've always been a bit disappointed tbh because applicants for the UK have always dropped out and the UK has never been properly represented. Considered entering myself at one point! ;)

Thinking of just writing a UK dubstep track (after all, we're the bastards who came up with it!) and if no-one submits a UK track, just posting it outside the competition to be patriotic.

Just 1 Week Until Deadline!!!!

7 Days!

You now only have 7 days to submit your entry, if you haven't already done so. Please try to get your entry in as soon as possible as this will make things a lot easier for the team and it gives your entry more exposure to the other participants voting! The entries will be CHECKED on Monday. This means your entry must be submitted BEFORE that day as once entries are checked there will be no going back, any countries left without songs will simply not be taking part and the acts who signed up will be disqualified and banned from the next contest. To avoid this get back in touch as soon as possible if you feel you will not be able to submit and entry. Any delays declared after Thursday will not be acceptable as the warning will have been given too late. Myself and the Juries are all ready to get some of your work marked and we're very excited to hear some great submissions!

What Happens After Monday?

As soon as all the entries are checked the block placements will be made as well as the running order for the podcast. Forms will then be sent out to all participants. You will all need to rank your top 10 entries, these will then be combined to provide your blocks individual vote, block votes and the jury both account for 50% of the final result so it is important you guys get the results back. These will need to be back before the weekend. The week after will be the official results week. Each Day two results will be revealed, slowly adding up the points of the entries, Saturday will show the two final results and crown the RAC 2012 winner. The scoring system has been tested and its proven to be very changeable and exciting, so the winner and positioning could be completely different from one day to the next!

Podcast

I know I've asked this before, but I need a few people to contact me now about interviews that will be used for the podcast. I need a final list of names so that I can start setting up when we're available to do it. I'm hoping to get the podcast out a week on Friday so these interviews will be taking place during next week. Just email me back or PM me if you're willing to take part.

We're also nearing 200 posts in here guys! Let's keep this place social and make some friends! :D

Shit, I totally didn't check the deadlines, and I'm having a testweek. -.-
Don't worry, I'll get this stuff done.

Also, can you give some more details about those interviews?

Update: I've been finding it hard to get the time to do any additional mixing to my submission, but i'm off tomorrow and will make sure to get the research posted and complete my application, then if I have spare time i'll try and get some mixing in.

Fortunately for me (unfortunately for this contest) i'm away to Berlin from the 20-23th so the fact you have asked us to rate our top 10 during that week I mightn't be able to do that unless we can still make that reply between the 24-26th.

As for the podcast, i would be well up for doing it but again you've said they will be taking place while i'm away.

I'm afraid we'd need the results before those times... we'll just have to take in your block vote without your own unfortunately. There's not much that can be done and the dates have been there since January. I'm sure everyone will vote in their blocks fairly though so I wouldn't worry too much about it, just concentrate on your piece :)

Can I do Mexico? ^^

Though I have exams this week and I haven't even started anything. I don't know if I can finish it within a few days. :<

So, any news on that podcast you're organizing?

It'd be nifty to know in advance the interview schedules as well as the topics so we can prepare in advance.

There's my song! Turned out just the way I wanted! :) My research stuff is in the description, I can provide MIDI's/images if needed.

Well I need more people to contact me and enter their tracks before I can even start to think about organizing it, which is starting to frustrate me a little now. We need 14 acts to get the full score system working... so far we've had 4 entries. So you can see how this is getting a bit concerning.

Make that 5, I'm nearing the end of my track, I'll be posting it somewhere in the next 2 days.

I'm hoping I'm getting all nervous for nothing and everyone will pop in in the next few days and submit stuff... it usually happens, although usually by this point we have enough entries for the score system to work. The new system requires a few more people which I thought wouldn't be a problem... I guess it's just all about playing the waiting game. :)

I've no idea, I was concerned throughout the contest about lack of contact from many of the entries but they bobbed up at the last minute for confirmation. I'm really hoping this will be the case here. :/
Next year there will be a score for participation, which will mean people will need to get more involved in the thread and socialise more with other contestants in the contest. One of the original reasons this contest was so good was because people got to meet other artists they'd never though of working with or talking to before. That hasn't been the case this year which has really disappointed me. Especially when we've even had tom promote the contest on the frontpage :/

Halfway through my song actually. Though I feel it doesn't sound Mexican enough. :<

I've initially decided against adding any electronic sounds but listening to the other entries, guess it wouldn't hurt.
